Sudan, Egypt begin high level military talks

The Sudan Defence Ministry announced the start of the fifth round of joint military talks with Egypt.

The ministry said in a statement that the talks began on Sunday morning, without indicating how long they are due to continue.

The Egyptian chief of staff, Lieutenant General Mohamed Farid Hegazy arrived in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, yesterday.

According to the statement, the head of the Sudanese delegation, Lieutenant General Hisham Abdul-Mutalib Ahmad has stressed on “the need to benefit from the deep experience of the armed forces in both countries to serve joint action, enhance cooperation and exchange of experiences”.

Meanwhile,  the Egyptian Chief of Staff and  head of the Egyptian delegation, Khaled Labib, stressed his country’s keenness to strengthen cooperation in all areas.

During Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s visit to Sudan on 19 July, Cairo and Khartoum agreed on the need to continue consultation and coordination in the Red Sea region and the promotion of bilateral cooperation in economic and trade fields.
