Prominent Islamic Scholar Sheikh Suleiman Dweesh has died under torture in a Saudi Arabian jail, AlKhaleejonline.com reported on Tuesday. According to a twitter account which documents and reports news of political detainees in the Kingdom, the Sheikh was arrested on 22 April, 2016.
The fact that the full details of the treatment to which Sheikh Dweesh was exposed suggests that it was extremely inhumane. He was arrested less than a day after posting critical comments about Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman on social media.
Ever since he was appointed as Crown Prince, Bin Salman has had thousands of political and religious opposition figures arrested. They include hundreds of Sharia scholars, intellectuals and prominent Sheikhs and university professors.

Bin Salman has also criticised Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and other rights groups which have condemned his crackdown on freedom of expression in Saudi Arabia. Such groups have called for the release of Saudis detained for opposing the de facto leader of the country.
