Secretary-General of the Arab Project in Iraq Khamis Al-Khanjar announced yesterday the formation of a new political alliance named “National Axis” which includes six prominent Sunni politicians, the Anadolu Agency reported.

Former Iraqi Parliament Speaker, Salim Al-Jubouri, said in a statement released by his office that the alliance includes himself and former Vice President, Osama Al-Nujaifi, Khamis Al-Khanjar, head of the National Movement for Development and Reform party, Jamal Al-Karboli, former minister of state for provincial affairs, Ahmed Al-Jubouri, and former minister of agriculture, Falah Al-Zaidan.

The Iraqi political blocs are waiting for the country’s electoral commission to consider all appeals filed against the manual recount of the May parliamentary elections, before the Federal Court approves them to begin talks on forming a government.

According to the recount, a coalition formed by Iraqi prominent Shia cleric Muqtada Al-Sadr remains the victor of the parliamentary elections with 54 seats.
