Some 239 Jews from North America arrived in Israel with the aim of living in illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, Quds Press reported yesterday.

The news site said Israel’s Channel 7 TV station reported that the settlers had arrived on board a private plane and included 30 families. Twenty-seven of them work in the medical professions, 11 are physicians, two nurses and five psychiatrists.

Two-thousand new settlers also arrived from the US and Canada this summer.

A total of 28,988 new settlers moved to Israel and the illegal West Bank settlements in 2017 with Russian and Ukrainian Jews making up 50.4 per cent of all those who arrived.

Israeli media reported yesterday that occupation authorities had approved a plan to build 20,000 new settlement units in occupied Jerusalem.
