Israeli police announced on Tuesday that they will be investigating “suspected violations of terms” imposed on the funeral of Palestinian citizen Ahmad Muhammad Mahamid, who was laid to rest in Umm al-Fahm after being shot dead by Israeli forces Friday while attempting a stabbing attack.

According to Ynet, police “placed a restriction of 150 on the number of people permitted to attend the funeral”, conditions insisted upon before authorities returned Ahmad’s body to his family.

However, the report stated, some 1,500 attended the funeral procession, which also saw “the launching of fireworks”.

The Israeli police will now demand NIS 50,000 from the deceased assailant’s family.

Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman also attacked those who mourned Ahmad, telling Israeli media: “You ask yourselves why Umm al-Fahm should be part of Palestine and not Israel?”

“The sight of hundreds of people participating in the funeral of a terrorist with a Palestinian flag, and calling for ‘in spirit and blood we redeem the martyr’ gives you a final answer to the question”.

“The plan which I publicized many years ago for territorial and population swaps is more relevant than ever,” he said.
