Washington denies meeting Mamlouk in Damascus

US State Department denied reports about a meeting that took place in Mezzeh, Damascus, between a US delegation and security leaders in the Syrian regime, last week of June,  on Wednesday evening.

State Department spokeswoman, Heather Nauert, denied these reports.

The Lebanese pro-Hezbollah newspaper  al-Akhbar reported Tuesday that a US delegation has met with security leaders in the Syrian regime, pointing out that “a UAE jet landed before midnight at the Damascus International Airport, which witnessed high-security measures.”

The newspaper added that “the US delegation included a high-ranking officer in addition to officers of various US intelligence and security agencies,” noting that “the delegation was received by Maj. Gen. Ali Mamlouk, Director of Syria’s National Security Bureau, in his new office in Mezzeh, in addition to Maj. Gen. Dib Zaitoun head of the General Security Directorate and Deputy Chief of General Staff, Maj. Gen. Mowafaq Asaad.”
