Director of the Jordanian Civil Affairs and Passports Fawwaz Al-Shahwan announced yesterday that fees for passports for Jerusalemites have been significantly reduced, Safa news agency reported.

The cost of passports was lowered from 200 dinars ($282) to 50 dinars ($71), Al-Shahwan said, adding that Jerusalemites would now not need to travel to Jordan in order to renew or apply for new Jordanian passports.

The changes came following a decree by King Abdullah II, the official adding, as part of his efforts to look after the holy city and its residents.

Palestinians in Jerusalem have welcomed the move as an effort to help they continue to fight Israeli efforts to Judaise the city and force them to take on Israeli citizenship in order to wipe out Jerusalem’s Palestinian history.
