Morocco defends use of slang words in school books

Morocco’s Ministry of Education yesterday defended the use of a number of slang words in two school books, the Anadolu Agency reported.

The ministry justified the move saying it was for “absolute educational purposes” that such words were used in two books to refer to Moroccan desserts, meals and clothes.

Locals had voiced their opposition of the move on social media saying the country was facing an “education crisis”.

The opposition Independence Party called for parliament to question the education minister regarding the use of slang words in text books.

However the government responded saying parents should pay no notice to the controversy and shold not risk disrupting the new school year.
