GCC chiefs of staff meet in Kuwait

The Supreme Military Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the Gulf Cooperation Council, GCC met on Monday in Kuwait to discuss the activation of a unified military command and the establishment of the Gulf Academy for Strategic and Security Studies.

The meeting which was attended by all six member states included Qatari Chief-of-Staff Ghanim bin Shaheen al-Ghanim for the first time since the Gulf crisis erupted in mid- summer 2017 that led to boycotting Doha.

The Kuwaiti Army Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Mohammed Khaled al- Khader said “the region’s challenges and rapid events necessitate the preservation of the Gulf ties as well as to cooperate and coordinate efforts to preserve and develop this entity and remove what disturbs the Gulf unity” Kuwait News Agency reported.

The meeting also includes the Commander of the Joint Peninsula Shield Forces and the Assistant Secretary-General for Military Affairs at the GCC General Secretariat.
