Baghdad announced that it would summon the Algerian ambassador to inform him of Iraq’s rejection and discontent with the behaviour of some Algerian sports fans during the match between the Air Force Club and the Algerian Capital Union.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry expressed in a statement its “condemnation of the behaviour of some Algerian sports fans in the match against the Iraqi Air Force Club, which participated in the Arab Championship. The statement said that such behaviour had offended the deep fraternal relationship between the two brotherly countries.”

The ministry demanded “the relevant authorities to clarify such a behaviour,” noting that “it will call the ambassador of the Algerian Republic to Baghdad to inform him of the Iraqi government’s and people’s resentment and rejection of this behaviour, and remind him of the responsibility to protect Iraqi citizens in Algeria.”

“And stay away from everything that would provoke our dear people in Algeria to embellish the ugly face of the former Saddam regime’s dictatorship.”

The statement pointed out that “the Iraqi people who love their Algerian brothers was and remains an example and a model of brotherly relations.”
