KRG PM stresses on continued cooperation with US coalition in the fight against Daesh

The Prime Minister of Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Nechirvan Barzani said Tuesday that cooperation with the international coalition forces led by the United States against Daesh terrorist group would continue in order to eliminate the threat of renewed terrorism in the region.

A statement issued by the regional government said Barzani made the remarks during a meeting held Tuesday with a US military delegation led by the outgoing Commanding General of the US-led coalition, Lieutenant General Paul E. Funk in Erbil.

According to the statement, the meeting aimed to inform the prime minister of the end of the Commanding General’s mandate and introduce his successor, General Paul Joseph LaCamera.

For his part, Barzani praised the role of General Funk in the previous period and assured him that the regional government and the Peshmerga will continue to cooperate and coordinate with the U.S. led coalition in order to eliminate the threat of terrorism in the region. Barzani has also expressed his thanks for General Funk efforts “in the reorganization of the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs”.

According to the same statement, the meeting also discussed the regional situation, the formation of the new Iraqi government, the parliamentary elections and the security situation of the region.
