Egypt imposes new tariffs on imported goods

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi yesterday issued a decree imposing tariffs on hundreds of imported goods, the Egyptian Gazette  reported.

The new law stipulated on raising customs on a large number of imported goods from five to 40 per cent. Tariffs on all types of imported juices have been raised to 60 per cent instead of 20 per cent, according to the decree.

The measure included an up to 40 per cent tariff on imported food commodities, electrical appliances, clothing, 20 per cent on all tourism industry imports, and another two per cent on imported materials used in the manufacturing of baby formulas.

Customs on cats and dogs’ food have also been raised from 30 per cent to 40 per cent.

The presidential decision included another ten per cent custom duties on the goods which are being returned to their country of origin for repair, in addition to all the transport and insurance fees.
