Iraq population exceeds 38m, 45% under age of 15

The Iraqi Ministry of Planning announced on Monday that the country’s population exceeded the ceiling of 38 million people this year, 45 per cent of which are under 15- year-old.

In its statement, the ministry’s Central Statistical Organization said that Iraq’s population reached 38,124,182 people in 2018.

The statement cleared up that the number of males registered 19,261,253 people, forming 51 per cent of the total population, while the number of females amounted 18,862,929, by 49 per cent of the total population.”

“The province of Baghdad got the highest position between the governorates in terms of population, where it amounted to 8,126,755 people, by 21 per cent of the total provinces’ population,” the statement added.

According to the statement, “Nineveh province ranked second after Baghdad in terms of population, with 10 per cent of the total provinces’ population, followed by Basra province by 8 per cent, while the province of Muthanna was the least populated, reaching 814,371 people, by 2 per cent.”
