The Palestinian Ministry of Housing yesterday announced that construction and renovation works have begun on eight residential buildings in the Al-Nada neighbourhood of northern Gaza, the Safa news agency reported.

According to the ministry, the work is being funded by the Italian government.

The area was subject to heavy Israeli bombardment during the 2014 Israeli offensive dubbed “Operation Protective Edge”.

During the 51-day offensive, Israel killed 2,251 Palestinians dead, with more than 11,000 wounded, according to Palestinian and UN sources. Four years on, Gaza is still subject to intense attacks by Israel as well as the ongoing blockade which has been enforced for more than 11 years.
