Jordan has not set a specific date for the reopening of its border with Syria, spokesperson Jumana Ghneimat said yesterday.

Ghneimat, who is the state minister for information and communication affairs, reiterated that the crossings with Syria are closed to people and goods.

Her remarks came in reply to comments made by the Syrian transportation minister that the borders would be opened by 10 October.

She stated that there are specialised committees still studying and discussing the issue of the crossings, noting that opening the crossings need certain infrastructure.

The Syrian Ministry of Transport announced last week that two of its border crossings with Jordan would reopen. It did not provide dates.

The crossings were closed after Daesh controlled large swathes of territory in Syria and a refugees took shelter in Jordan in 2015.
