Israel: Hezbollah monitoring our army along Lebanon border

October 23, 2018 at 9:50 am

Israeli army yesterday announced that it had uncovered new observation point near the borders with Lebanon used by Hezbollah to monitor the army’s infrastructure in the area, Ynet News reported.

According to the Israeli news site, the army said this is the second observation point it has uncovered this year and the sixth in the past couple of years.

The Israeli army claims that Hezbollah sets up these observation points under the guise of a civil NGO called Green Without Borders, which promotes agriculture and environmental protection.

The observation points, the army added, are a violation of the UN Security Council resolution 1701 which brought an end to the Israeli offensive on Lebanon in 2006.

“We voiced our concern over these posts to the UN, but Hezbollah made it difficult for UN inspectors to do their job and examine the posts, claiming it is a private area,” an Israeli army statement said, according to Ynet News.

“This is a blatant, daily violation of the UN Security Council resolutions 1701, which prohibits any armed military presence south of the Litani river except for the Lebanese army and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL),” the statement added.

Referring to the Lebanese NGO, the statement said: “These are not forest keepers or ornithologists. The organisation continues to deploy forces near the border and thinks that Israel is oblivious to this activity.”
