The Israeli authorities renewed the administrative detention of Palestinian parliament member Khalida Jarrar for the fourth time in a row yesterday.

A Ma’an reporter, who obtained a copy of the renewal order, said it Jarrar’s detention has been extended for four extra months.

Israeli forces detained Jarrar on 2 July 2017 and placed her under administrative detention more than a year ago, on the grounds that they had “confidential information”.

She had been released just one year earlier. Her current detention has been renewed three times.

Jarrar, a leading member of the PFLP, deputy at the PLC (Palestinian Legislative Council), heads the PLC’s prisoners’ committee and acts as the Palestinian representative in the Council of Europe, an international organisation promoting human rights and democracy around the world, was previously detained in 2015 and had spent 14 months in Israeli jails.
