Qatari Defence Minister Khalid Al-Attiyah said that his country has doubled its defence capabilities to be prepared for any military attack against it.

“Attention to the defence dimension is an insurance policy,” he said, adding that the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani always seeks to support and strengthen the country’s defence capabilities and maintaining stability in the region.

According to Al Attiyah, “Qatar has allies, but has never thought that they would defend it; because it is able to defend itself, its philosophy and military doctrine.”

Al Attiyah explained that all defence equipment and systems purchased by Qatar are modern and advanced, including cyber defence systems.

Qatar’s neighbours, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE, launched a blockade on the small Gulf state in June 2017 with reports that they had planned a military attack in an effort to overthrow the government.
