Iraq Parliament Speaker calls on Qatar to contribute to reconstruction and investment

The Iraqi Parliament Speaker, Mohammed al- Halbousi called on Wednesday on the State of Qatar to contribute to reconstruction efforts in Iraq and to activate investments protocols between the two countries.

“The Speaker of the House of Representatives received on Wednesday the Qatari Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al-Thani and his accompanying delegation” Halbousi office said in a statement, adding that the officials have discussed bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and means of enhancing cooperation in all fields.

The statement quoted al- Halbousi as saying that “Iraq is keen to strengthen and develop its economic, trade and investment relations as well as to build balanced international relations based on respect for the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their affairs”.

Al- Halbousi stressed that the Parliament intends to provide all facilities through laws and legislation to ensure safe investment environment” and called to give priority to employing Iraqis in Qatari investments in Iraq.

Meanwhile, the Qatari Foreign Minister affirmed his country’s readiness to open all horizons of cooperation with Iraq and strengthen the historic friendship with the Iraqi government and people.
