Saudi Arabia has invited the president of the Southern Transitional Council Aidros Al-Zubaidi to visit the kingdom, Russia’s Sputnik news agency reported.

High-level sources said Al-Zubaidi has welcomed the invitation, saying the transitional council is a key partner in the Saudi war on terrorism in Yemen.

The sources did not specify the date of Al-Zubaidi’s visit.

According to the sources, Riyadh plans to discuss with Al-Zubaidi a number of issues including; fighting terrorism, coordinating efforts to complete its fight against Houthis and expelling them from the strategic port of Hudaydah as well as the northern provinces controlled by the Iranian-backed group, the sources said.

Last year, the UAE-backed STC forces joined in a military alliance with the internationally backed government of President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi on the west coast of Yemen in an effort to retake the strategic port city of Hudaydah and the capital Sanaa from the Houthis.
