US Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats on Tuesday discussed in Cairo ways to reach political compromises in the current Middle East crises, according to Egypt’s presidency, Anadolu Agency reports.
According to a statement issued by the presidency, Coats, who paid an unannounced visit to Egypt, was received by Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and head of General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel.
During their meeting, they discussed ways to boost security and intelligence cooperation between the Washington and Cairo in countering terrorism and extremism, the statement said.
The meeting also saw exchange of views on developments on a number of issues in the Middle East, it said.
Al-Sisi stressed strong ties between Cairo and Washington particularly in the field of counter-terrorism, security and intelligence cooperation.
Coats, for his part, emphasized Washington’s keenness for continuous coordination with Cairo, especially over the situation in the Middle East, the statement added.
