Report: Saudi female student tortured in solitary confinement

December 11, 2018 at 1:41 pm

The Francophone Paris Institute for Freedoms yesterday accused the Saudi authorities of torturing a female university student who was arbitrarily arrested on charges of criticising the authorities on social media.

The Institute said it had received a shocking oral testimony of systematic torture endured by Shaden Khalid Al-Anzi, a student at the Imam University, who has been detained for seven months without charge.

The letter, which the Institute says it recently received, outlines the physical and psychological torture and electrocution of Al-Anzi.

The Institute called for international intervention to pressure the Saudi authorities to allow independent international observers to visit detained Saudi human rights activists and ensure their safety.
