The head of Hamas’ political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, will “soon” leave the occupied Gaza Strip for a “wide” tour around a number of Arab and foreign countries, Arabi21 reported yesterday, quoting a Hamas senior source.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the trip was planned to start in the Egyptian capital of Cairo.

He noted that Haniyeh’s tour would include Lebanon, Turkey, Iran, Qatar, Kuwait, Mauritania, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Morocco.

“Haniyeh is due to visit the Russian capital of Moscow in response to an invitation which the movement recently received from the Russian government,” the source pointed out.

The Hamas official’s trip was planned some months ago but the Egyptian authorities were reported to have opposed stops at certain countries.
