Palestinian Jerusalem Governor Adnan Ghaith has called on Brazil not to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem, Quds Press reported yesterday.
In a statement, Ghaith called for the Arab states and friends all over the world to put pressure on Brazil in order to cease the relocation plan.
During his visit to Brazil, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the Brazilian president-elect had promised to relocate the embassy of his country to Jerusalem, but he would wait because he is currently under pressure not to carry out the plan.
Ghaith reiterated that the eastern part of the occupied holy city would be the capital of the future Palestinian state.
In December last year, US President Donald Trump announced his administration’s plans to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and made the move in May. Israel has been working to encourage other nations to follow suit, in opposition to UN resolutions which state that Jerusalem is a final status issue and as such is an international city and not under Israeli jurisdiction.
