January 2, 2019 at 9:22 am

Jordanian MP Khalil Attiya stirred controversy on Sunday after calling for a new amnesty law to include those convicted of rape.

During a legislative session Attiya demanded rape, molestation, kidnapping and other crimes be included in the new bill being presented to the House of Representatives for discussion and approval.

Members of Parliament Khalid Al-Fanatseh and Hassan Al-Ajarma supported Attiya in his calls.

However, after his call stirred angry reactions inside parliament and among the public, Attiya issued a statement retracting his proposal and said he was wrong.
