Israel may allow Qatari funds to enter the Gaza Strip if calm is maintained in the area, local media reported yesterday.

Al-Watan Voice reported Israeli TV Channel 10 saying that if the situation on the eastern fence of Gaza remained calm, Qatar is expected to be able to transfer the funds tomorrow.

Israeli TV also reported that the UN Middle East Envoy Nicolay Mladenov and Qatar had told Hamas that the money might arrive in Gaza within two days.

Israeli journalist Shimrit Meir said today that the Egyptian authorities would contact Hamas to ask it not to allow the situation to escalate on Friday in order to let Qatari funds in to Gaza.

He also revealed that the Egyptians would allow a Hamas delegation to travel to Russia through the Rafah crossing in spite of the closure which came after the Palestinian Authority withdrew its officers from the border earlier this week.
