Erekat asks EU to end Israel occupation, help create Palestine state

January 10, 2019 at 2:10 pm

Secretary of the PLO’s Executive Committee Saeb Erekat has asked the EU to help Palestinians end the Israeli occupation and create a Palestinian state, Al-Watan Voice reported yesterday.

In a speech he delivered before the conference of the united EU, EU parliamentarian group and Green parties in Europe, Erekat gave ten recommendations that he hoped the EU would carry out.

He called for the EU to recognise the Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital and solve the final status issues based on international law and release of Palestinian prisoners.

He then called for the EU to carry out a comprehensive boycott of the “colonial” state and divest from settlements.

Erekat called for the EU to freeze its partnership with Israel as the second article of the deal stipulates that both sides respect human rights and international law, while Israel keeps violating the rules of human rights and international law.

He called on Europe to support Palestine application to become a full-member state at the UN and afford international protection for the Palestinians and hold Israel accountable for its war crimes against them.
