The Arab League called for an active and concrete European role in the peace process in the Middle East as well as a just solution to the Palestinian issue, based on the resolutions of international legitimacy and globally recognised norms.

The Ambassador of the State of Palestine in Cairo and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Diab Al-Louh, called on the permanent delegates and ambassadors of the Political and Security Committee of the Council of the European Union to maintain their unified position on the legal status of the city of Al-Quds Al-Sharif, and to support the Arab Peace Initiative as a means to establish peace in the region.

Al-Louh demanded European actors to back the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s vision, presented before the Security Council in February 2018, as a successful and available mechanism to establish peace and find a solution to the region’s crisis, which has been intensified due the Israeli government’s intransigence, in addition to the unjust and illegal US decisions against Jerusalem and the Palestinian people, which were rejected.

He called on the EU member states to recognise the State of Palestine on the borders of the 4 June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital to preserve the principle of the two-state solution, which was adopted and endorsed by the European Union.
