Kuwait’s Public Prosecutor yesterday referred 26 former and current senior officers and officials of the interior ministry to criminal court on graft charges.

The prosecution said in a statement that a team of investigators had completed investigating the complaint filed by the interior ministry including the examination of tens of thousands of documents related to the case.

According to the statement, the acts of corruption occurred in the fiscal years 2014-2015 and 2015-2016.

In January 2016, the budget’s committee of the Kuwaiti Parliament reviewed a case concerning the embezzlement of nearly 33 million dinars ($100 million) worth of public funds.

Interior Minister Sheikh Khalid Al Jarrah Al Sabah referred the case to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, leading to the arrest of seven officials.

The defendants include the director of Media Relations and Information, Brigadier Adel Al-Hashash.
