Hundreds of Sudanese people took part in demonstration in a number of cities yesterday despite a one year state of emergency declared by Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir on Friday.
Protests were held in the cities of Khartoum, Bahri and Omdurman against President Al-Bashir’s decision to dissolve the government at the federal and provincial levels and the formation of a military government.
Witnesses and activists told the German Press Agency (DPA) that 12 neighbourhoods in Khartoum, Bahri and Omdurman witnessed demonstrations with the largest of them taking place in Omdurman.
According to witnesses, security forces dispersed the demonstrations by firing tear gas and forcing traders to close their shops.
For more than two months, Sudan has witnessed a series of demonstrations against the deteriorating economic situation in the country. Demonstrators have since began to call for the overthrow of the government.
