The Yemeni authorities have released all the Egyptian citizens who had been detained in Yemen’s port city of Aden, Egypt’s Al-Watan reported yesterday.

The media officer for the Aden governorate’s security director, Khalid Al-Sanmi, said that the state security, following direct instructions from the Yemeni foreign minister, had transferred the Egyptian detainees to a hotel located in central Aden.

“We are currently finalizing the necessary travel documents and procedures for our Egyptian brothers,” Al-Sanmi pointed out, adding that the detainees would be returning to their home country “soon.”

A wife of one of the detainees was quoted by the newspaper as saying that her husband had phoned her and had confirmed that he and his colleagues were being released.

Yemeni authorities had been holding some 114 Egyptians on unknown charges after they illegally infiltrated to Yemen from Saudi Arabia.
