The Qatari Committee for Reconstructing Gaza yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding related to mechanisms of a “cash for work” programme which aims to afford jobs for unemployed graduates and workers, the Shehab news agency reported.

The programme is to start by the beginning of March. It will offer thousands of job opportunities for skilled graduates and workers in different fields.

Based on the memorandum, the Qatari Committee will pay $13 million to the UN Work and Relief Agency (UNRWA), which will carry out the programme.

It is reported also that the UN Development Programme (UNDP) is to start implementing a similar initiative with a budget of $7 million.

Up to 10,000 unemployed new graduates and workers will benefit from the programmes.
