Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas has met with the head of the World Bank to get unconditional funds for the Palestinians, Al-Watan Voice reported yesterday.

According to Al-Watan Voice, Abbas’ aide for economic affairs Mohammad Mustafa told the Voice of Palestine radio that Palestinians are currently subject to internal and external conspiracies.

He pointed to the Israeli slashing of the tax revenues collected on behalf of the PA as a form of sanctions imposed on the PA due to its “unwavering stances regarding the Palestinian principles.”

Therefore, Mustafa said, the PA is looking for alternative support to cover the deficit caused by this Israeli measure and the US cut in aid.

Part of these efforts, he said, was a meeting between Abbas and the head of the World Bank, noting that Abbas was seeking “unconditional” funding for the PA.

Mustafa did not give any other details about the meeting or what kind of grant Abbas requested from it.
