Water shortages are one of the biggest challenges facing Iran at the moment, Iran’s women’s minister said yesterday.

Speaking at a water conference held in the city of Mashhad, the Vice President of Iran for Women and Family Affairs Masoumeh Ebtekar called to overcome the water problem through public support and awareness campaigns.

“We have to reform the culture of consumption in all areas of life, and everyone, especially farmers, must unite and rationalise water consumption,” she said.

The Iranian official said the water conference was planned in ten other Iranian cities in order to educate the people and provide them with information on how to use and conserve water.
