March 21, 2019 at 11:31 am

Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika may step down on 28 April when his fourth term ends, local media reported on Tuesday.

Algeria’s Ennahar newspaper quoted sources close to the Algerian Presidential Alliance as saying that Bouteflika plans to complete the last few days of his term then leave office on 28 April.

According to the same sources, Bouteflika will step down either by voluntarily resigning days before the end of his term or in accordance with Article 102 of the constitution citing inability to exercise his presidential duties due to his health.

According to Ennahar, observers have ruled out both possibilities.
