Algeria: 2,000 members of Ouyahia party resign, join protests

2,000 members of the National Democratic Rally (RND), led by former Algerian Prime Minister, Ahmed Ouyahia, resigned from the party in protest against the latter's statement which they considered "contrary to the principles and ethics of political action."

The members who resigned announced in a statement joining the popular movement in Algeria in protest against Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's stay in power.

The statement added that "this resignation came as a natural result following the latest political developments, and as a personal choice out of my conviction that I am on the side of the Djelfa citizens."
