The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres yesterday called on the international community to support Tunisia by creating job opportunities there, since unemployment is one of the main problems facing the north African country, Tunisian Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasser quoted the official as saying.

Nasser said Guterres praised Tunisia’s embodiment of democracy, stressing that the United Nations supports the country’s democratic transition.

“Guterres also expressed his appreciation to the Tunisian people who have shown great generosity by receiving more than 1.3 million Libyan refugees,” he added.

Guterres arrived in Tunisia on Saturday where he attended the Quartet Committee meeting on Libya.

In 2018, unemployment in Tunisia reached nearly 15.5 per cent.
