Makila James, deputy assistant of US Secretary of State for African affairs, on Tuesday asked the Military Transitional Council in Sudan to quickly form a civil government, the Anadolu Agency reported.

During a meeting with the Chief of the Military Transitional Council Abdel-Fattah Burhan, she said: “Time passes quickly and this necessitates accelerating the formation of a civil government that responds to the people’s aspiration.”

Makila said that the US is ready to talk with the military council during the upcoming period and ready to support the choices of the Sudanese people.

The US official arrived in Khartoum on Monday for a two-day visit, the Sudanese news agency said.

She met with the Deputy Foreign Minister Ilham Shantir and discussed the situation in Sudan.

Early this month, the army said it had ousted longtime dictator Omar Al-Bashir who ruled the country for three decades.
