Qatar Petroleum yesterday announced that it had tasked international firms to dig 80 new gas wells as part of its plan to boost natural gas production from the North Field, Anadolu reported.

Throughout this programme, Qatar Petroleum said, it would increase its production capacity from 77 million tonnes of liquified gas to 110 million tonnes a year.

In a statement, Qatar Petroleum said that Gulf Oil International won the bids to dig six platforms and the American Northern Offshore won the bids to two platforms.

Qatar Petroleum is a state-owned firm which carries out all the activities related to oil and gas, including excavation, production, refining, transporting and refining.

This will increase Qatar’s total production capacity, Al Jazeera said, from 4.8 million to 6.2 million barrels of oil equivalent per day.
