Pictures of Saudi’s former deputy intelligence chief, Ahmed Asiri, have been shared on social media showing the man accused of being the mastermind of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s murder-free.

The picture being circulated shows Asiri with a family member who is wearing military garbs, with online users speculating if he is his son or simply a family member.

Others said the picture proves one of two things: “Either that Saudi law is thuggish and honours killers and thugs. Or that Asiri is really innocent and the person who was behind Khashoggi’s murder was really Mohammed Bin Salman.”

In November 2018, Saudi authorities held Asiri and the adviser to the Royal Court Saud Al-Qahtani, responsible for Khashoggi’s death in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul one month earlier. This came after a royal decree was issued removing him from his post.
