In its monthly report, the Palestinian Centre for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) reported 19 violations against media freedoms in Israel and the occupied territories, Safa said yesterday.

In a statement, MADA said the Israeli occupation committed 11 of these violations, the Palestinian Authority (PA) in the occupied West Bank committed five and the authorities in Gaza committed three.

This number is much lower that the number of violations which have been witnessed in previous months, when the Israeli occupation committed 80 violations and the Palestinian authorities in the West Bank and besieged Gaza Strip together carried out 37 violations.

“This is a notable decline in the number of violations,” MADA said, but noting that this does necessarily reflects an improvement related to media freedoms. The centre said it put the reduction in number down to the fact that there were fewer high profile events being marked in the occupied territories and as a result fewer attacks on journalists covering them.
