Ex-Iran diplomat: Daesh prisoners joined Syria regime army

February 10, 2020 at 11:18 am

Former Iranian diplomat and head of Iran’s Strategic Studies and International Relations, Amir Mousavi, revealed yesterday that some of detained Daesh members joined the Syrian regime forces and participated in their battles.

In an interview with Al-Mayadeen TV, Mousavi added that these members were captured in Syria and joined the regime forces “after they understood their mistakes”.

“Iran Supreme leader, Ali Khamenei has recommended rehabilitating Daesh prisoners and the groups fighting against the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as well as groups fighting in the name of Iran in the region, instead of killing them,” Mousavi said.

“Some of the imprisoned Daesh militants from the Syrian youth have joined the Syrian army to atone for their sins and participated in the liberation of Deir Ez-Zor,”  he said, adding that “the Syrian regime benefited from these people in liberating Syrian lands, and in defeating other takfiri forces.”
