Chinese student commits suicide in Saudi after being quarantined for coronavirus

The Health Directorate in the city of Jeddah announced on Saturday evening that a student living in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has committed suicide after being quarantined in hospital on suspicion of being infected with the coronavirus.

“One of the students residing in the Kingdom arrived at King Fahad Hospital in Jeddah mediated by the Red Crescent on Friday morning. He was suspected of being infected with a respiratory virus according to the symptoms at the time of hospitalisation, and he was treated according to medical norms,” ​​the Jeddah Health Directorate disclosed in a statement.

The Directorate stressed in its statements that: “All the precautionary measures have been taken, and he was placed in the isolation room until the issuance of the laboratory results, which appeared on Saturday morning and showed that there was no infection with the virus.”

The Health Directorate pointed out that: “The patient was placed in a completely closed isolation room. However, he threw himself out of the room after removing the window’s safety button, at 12:24 am, and then official and security authorities started the investigations into the incident.”

A local newspaper reported earlier on Saturday that a Chinese patient in his thirties threw himself from the third floor of a government hospital in Jeddah, and subsequently died.
