The Yisrael Beiteinu party, led by Avigdor Lieberman, said Thursday that it would support a bill planned by Kahol Lavan which bans officials indicted for a crime from forming a government. This move could potentially block Benjamin Netanyahu, who is indicted in three corruption cases, from forming the next government.

The party has also announced that it will propose a law limiting the prime minister’s tenure for only two terms.

Earlier on Thursday, Knesset member Ofer Shelah of the Kahol Lavan wrote on Facebook that the bloc will not hesitate to exploit the parliamentary majority along with the joint list to work against Netanyahu, adding that Netanyahu’s talk about winning the elections because the joint list is not on his calculations is a declaration of war by the Likud party against the democratic Jewish state of Israel.

Reports also indicate that the Yisrael Beiteinu party will recommend the head of the Kahol Lavan list, Benny Gantz to form the next Israeli government during a meeting with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin this week.

Sources in Kahol Lavan explained that the proposed bill would not be enacted retroactively. Instead, it would be designed to pressure the Likud party to accept the formation of a unity government with Kahol Lavan and under its conditions.
