Ya’alon: Escalation against Iran in Netanyahu’s personal interest

Former Israeli Army Chief of Staff and Defence Minister Moshe Ya’alon said yesterday that the escalation against Iran stems from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s personal interests.

On Twitter, Ya’alon wrote: “The overt escalation against Iran is connected to Netanyahu’s personal interest to overwhelm [Israel’s] agenda and evade trial on corruption charges.”

According to Quds Press, he added that Netanyahu’s efforts to persuade the head of the Yamina Party, Naftali Bennett, to join a coalition government is an attempt to save him from legal proceedings.

This came following an attack on Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility, which reports claim has set Iran’s nuclear capabilities back several months.

Iran yesterday accused arch-foe Israel of sabotaging the Natanz nuclear site and vowed revenge for the attack.

The incident occurred amid diplomatic efforts by Iran and the United States to revive Tehran’s 2015 nuclear deal with major powers, an accord Israel fiercely opposed, after former US President Donald Trump abandoned it three years ago.
