Turkish security forces yesterday arrested 16 people in the capital city of Istanbul for allegedly “financing Daesh”.

Local media quoted security sources as saying that the counterterrorism division of the Istanbul police launched an “operation to arrest those suspected of financing Daesh elements.”

“On Sunday, security forces carried out raids on a number of homes in Istanbul, during which they arrested 16 suspects,” the sources noted.

The sources added that the security forces were continuing their investigations into the suspects’ actions with regards “opposing the law on preventing terror financing” and “affiliation with an armed terrorist organisation”.
