The Palestinian Authority (PA) has warned that Israel is pushing for a religious war in the region through its attacks on Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs said that the activities of the Israeli organisation Ateret Cohanim, known for its settlement activities which aim to rob Palestinians of their properties, is calling for mass raids to Al-Aqsa Mosque today.

The Israeli occupation government, the ministry added, is offering protection for members of the settler organisation and their activities against Palestinians, and as a result, pushing for an open-ended religious war in the region.

Concluding the statement, the PA said the Israeli occupation government is fully responsible for the consequences of the increasing aggression and violence in Jerusalem.
