Israel has declared the occupied East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah a closed military zone, limiting access to Palestinians, while allowing freedom of movement to illegal settlers.
Residents of the area, who face forcible eviction as part of the occupation state’s ethnic cleansing campaign in East Jerusalem and Area C of the occupied West Bank, have reported that they are harassed as they try to re-enter the area. Their ID cards are checked and they are not given easy passage into their homes.
What is skunk water?
- Skunk is a malodorant, non-lethal weapon used for crowd control by occupation forces. A form of yellow mist, it is fired from a water cannon and leaves a powerful odour similar to rot or sewage on whatever it touches. It can cause skin irritation, stomach pains and vomiting
Curfews have also been imposed on Palestinian residents.
Meanwhile, they have said, settlers come and go as they please. Many of whom are armed with rifles and knives.
Palestinians have reported living in fear as a result.
According to news reports, Sky News and CNN journalists were assaulted by Israeli occupation forces while reporting on a car-ramming at an Israeli checkpoint in which a Palestinian young man was killed on Sunday.
Occupation forces have also used skunk water to disperse Palestinian protesters in the area.
