Malaysia calls for donors to support Palestinians in Gaza

Malaysian Foreign Minister, Hishammuddin Hussein, yesterday launched a “unified” fund to support Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip.

Calling for donors to contribute to the fund, Hussein said that Malaysia was “ready to assist with directing the funds to Palestine.”

“Following the ceasefire on 21 May, the main goal now is to send humanitarian aid as soon as possible to the Palestinians and to help in rebuilding Gaza,” Hussien told local media, stressing that his country was “ready to support any initiatives with brotherly countries to rebuild the only COVID-19 laboratory in the enclave, which was hit by Israeli missiles.”

“Malaysia is making every effort to establish contacts with all the countries in the region, as well as to encourage political solutions between the Palestinians and Israelis,” Hussein rerteriated.

Israel’s latest bombardment of the Gaza Strip, which it dubbed ‘Operation Guardians of the Walls’, killed 254 people, including 66 children, 39 women and 17 elders, in addition to injuring 1,948 Palestinians, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.

Palestinians said the attack was a ‘war on towers’ with the occupation state aiming for high rises in Gaza, causing maximum damage and destruction to the Strip and to people’s lives, and forcing over 70,000 to flee their homes and seek shelter in UNRWA schools.
