Lebanon’s Hezbollah yesterday said that it’s Secretary General, Hassan Nasrallah, would deliver a speech “next week” amid rumours that he had contracted covid and his health had deteriorated as a result.

Hezbollah’s official TV channel Al-Manar reported that Nasrallah would appear “next Tuesday at 17:30 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the channel’s founding.”

Nasrallah was reported in recent weeks to have been suffering “noticeable health problems, including breathing difficulties.” During his last speech on 25 May, he appeared to be exhausted, which has led to some speculation that he had contracted coronavirus.

Hezbollah officials denied that Nasrallah contracted the virus, explaining that he had undergone treatment for “spring allergies and pneumonia”.
